CBS were asked by Colas to provide access to enable the repairs to the voided structure at Methley Bridge, Castleford, over the River Calder.
Access was difficult but the CBS modular plastic pontoon system was delivered as close as possible to the site and then man handled into the river and assembled to allow a continuous wrap around all the piers and access from the shore.
CBS provided their Rigid Raiders to push the pontoons into place and also to carry equipment and transport the bridge repair team as required. The pontoons were fitted with plywood protection and visqueen bunding to prevent anything from the pontoon or bridge entering the watercourse during the works.
The experienced CBS team managed the navigation allowing craft to pass through the bridge while allowing the repair works to continue.
This project was carried out on time and to the strict standards required by the EA, the client and Canal and River Trust to whom CBS are national contractors.
